What it is

Oil purification that reduces new-oil demand

The S.O.F. unit removes solid particulates and moisture from straight industrial oils, controlling the acid, water, and silt contamination that degrades a fluid. Purified oil returns to new condition or better, and its working life can be extended indefinitely.

  • Staged solids and water removalRemoves bulk solids, fine solids to 3 microns, and bulk and trace water to 10 ppm.
  • Equipment runs betterCleaner oil means more efficient operation, longer component life, and longer life for the in-line filters downstream.
  • Portable, low-maintenance designThe portable configuration moves between oil systems and operates with limited routine attention.
90%+
of system failures are caused by corrosive or abrasive wear of parts.
That wear comes from the acid, water, and silt the S.O.F. unit removes; taking them out of the oil protects the equipment it runs in.
How it works

Bulk solids, fine solids, then water

Dirty oil passes through staged filtration: a bag for the bulk load, a cartridge for fine solids, and a moisture-removal stage that reduces bulk and trace water to 10 ppm. The treated oil returns to service after filtration, to new condition or better.

The example below shows a portable bag and cartridge canister configuration; the staging is matched to the fluid and contamination at quotation.

Stage 01

Bag filter

Captures bulk solids first, reducing the coarse-solids load on the downstream cartridge.

System functions and operating results

S.O.F. system functions and operating results
System functionOperating result
Removes bulk & fine solidsParticulate down to 3 micron taken out, so the oil stops carrying the abrasives that score parts.
Removes bulk & trace waterWater pulled down to 10 ppm, removing the moisture behind corrosion and acid formation.
Filters oil to new conditionPurified oil performs like new, and its life can be extended indefinitely.
Portable, low-maintenance operationThe unit moves between oil systems and has low maintenance requirements. Application-specific simple payback can be estimated from quoted investment and current oil, maintenance, and disposal costs.
Autonomous protective controlsAutomatic high-pressure shutdown protects a loaded element, while low-pressure shutdown responds to loss of flow and activates a warning lamp.
Protects downstream filtersCleaner oil extends the life of in-line filters and the equipment they protect.
Reduces oil purchases and disposalA field installation achieved more than 50% lower new-oil purchases, with corresponding waste-oil disposal reduction.

What the filtration removes

Oil back to new condition or better

The illustrated S.O.F. configuration removes bulk solids on the bag, fine solids to 3 micron on the cartridge, and trace moisture down to 10 ppm, the contamination that drives the corrosive and abrasive wear behind most equipment failures.

Purified oil performs like new and its working life can be extended indefinitely. An EdjeTech engineer confirms oil compatibility and system configuration during the application review.

3 µm

10 ppm

50%+
Reduction in new-oil purchases at a field installation.
90%+

Configuration

Matched to your oil and contamination

The S.O.F. line is built to the fluid and the contamination it carries. Configuration is application-specific: hydraulic-oil reclamation and EDM-oil polishing require different filtration stages. The staging, micron ratings, and format are set with an engineer.

  • Example unit

    Portable canister unit

The portable bag and cartridge canister unit captures bulk solids on the bag and fine solids to 3 micron on the cartridge, with moisture removal down to 10 ppm to rejuvenate the oil. The portable build uses a TEFC motor, self-priming positive-displacement pump, and NEMA 4 electrical enclosure with 120 VAC single-phase power; 240 VAC and Class I, Division I explosion-rated configurations are available.

Common questions

Product and ownership questions

  • 01

    Which oils can it filter?

Compatible fluids include hydraulic, gear, turbine, compressor, cutting, drawing, EDM, quench, lube, engine, transformer, and rust-preventing oils, plus ATF, brake fluid, synthetic oils, and fuels. An engineer can evaluate oils outside this list because the filtration stages are selected for the fluid.

  • 02

Does it remove water as well as solids?

Yes. It removes bulk solids and fine solids down to 3 microns, plus bulk and trace water down to 10 ppm. Water removal reduces corrosion and acid-formation risk, while solids removal addresses abrasive wear.

  • 03

Will filtered oil really perform like new?

Purified oil returns to new condition or better, and its working life can be extended indefinitely. The right media for the contaminant is what makes that repeatable.

  • 04

    Is this for my coolant?

No. The S.O.F. line is for straight, neat, and synthetic oils, rather than water-based coolant. For coolant recycling, see C.R.O.S.S.; for tramp oil in coolant, see T.O.S.S.

    See C.R.O.S.S.
  • 05

How is the correct configuration selected?

The configuration depends on the solids or moisture you need to remove, how much oil needs treatment, and whether you want to serve one machine or several. Describe the problem in your oil system; an engineer will work through the sizing and filtration stages with you.

  • 06

    What routine maintenance is required?

Routine ownership care centers on condition-based filter-element replacement, accessible strainer cleaning, and hose inspection. The self-priming, self-lubricating pump requires no scheduled maintenance.

  • 07

What support is available after purchase?

EdjeTech supplies replacement bag and cartridge media by model and provides operating guidance, troubleshooting support, and technical documentation through the support library.
